Did you think you knew about living things?

Neither animal, nor plant, nor fungus, the blob defies all categories. A single, sprawling supercell, capable of learning and memory, which amazes researchers around the world. Fragmented? It merges. Immersed in water or in zero gravity? It adapts, survives and explores in 3D. When dormant, it braves the fire and extreme cold of the stratosphere (-52°C, yes, we tested it). And if nothing stops it, its lifespan could well be… infinite.

This is just a glimpse of his most puzzling talents.

Blobs are globetrotters: in addition to being present in the four corners of the world, they are also found in France.

There are about 1000 species of myxomycetes. Not all of them have the incredible abilities of Physarum polycephalum or Badhamia utricularis. To make sure you get the blobs that fascinate scientists the most, order yours here.

Respect for the living

The blob has neither a brain nor a nervous system, it is a non-sentient organism composed of a single cell. Plants, for example, are much more complex than it.

The blob cannot be destroyed as an individual. In a blob box, you adopt a copy, a “natural clone” resulting from the division into several pieces of a larger individual. Even in the event of an accident, the individual as such does not disappear: it is still present in many homes, laboratories, and of course in nature.

The ethics of the Lab

Physarum polycephalum and Badhamia utricularis are common species. They are not at risk of extinction.

No harvesting in the wild: the blob has been reproduced by humans for decades.

The Blob Lab only sells species already present in France: no invasive risk by B. utricularis or P. polycephalum. Verification and awareness-raising work is carried out in cases of foreign sales. Unfortunately, not every retailer takes care of this.

The blob is a great ambassador for biology and respect for the living. Thanks to it, its observers develop exploration skills that make them more aware and protective of the challenges of nature.
