There are about 1,000 species of blobs—known as myxomycetes—scattered throughout our forests. That’s huge! But not all of them have the incredible abilities of Physarum polycephalum or Badhamia utricularis. Most aren’t even mobile! To be sure you get the blobs that fascinate scientists the most, buy yours at Le Labo du Blob. Your blob’s species is certified, and the sclerotia are a good size and in excellent health.

For beginners, Physarum polycephalum and Badhamia utricularis are excellent choices. Easy to feed and fast-growing, they are the most widely studied blobs in laboratories around the world. Physarum and Badhamia can be distinguished by their colors: Physarum is a yellow blob, while Badhamia is an orange blob. Badhamia grows and moves a bit more slowly, but it is more resistant to cool temperatures. It also goes dormant in the blink of an eye, very easily. Their tree-like structures also differ: Badhamia forms ribbed waves of networks, while Physarum creates a finely cut lace-like pattern.
